Give Beds-n-Biscuits a call to reserve space for your dog. Be aware that for major holidays, it is best to book several months in advance! New clients should be ready to provide us with basic information about the breed and weight of your dog, as well as the dates of your dog's most recent vaccinations. A credit card is required to hold your reservation. For major holidays, an advance deposit will be required. This deposit is non-refundable but will be applied to your total bill at the end of your dog's stay.
All dogs must be current on their rabies, distemper and bordatella vaccines.
Bring a copy of your dog's vaccination information, as well as any medication your dog may need. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, it's advisable to bring his or her own food. All food and medication should be clearly labeled with the dog's name, plus instructions for medicating and feeding. Bringing a bed will help ensure a comfy stay for your dog. At the time of check-in, advise the Beds-n-Biscuits staff of any special medical or behavioral concerns you may have. Let us know if you'd like your dog to have a bath at the end of his or her stay.
The price for boarding includes your dog's indoor kennel for sleeping and dining, plus outdoor play time with the other boarders during the day. Dogs in the same family can stay together in the same indoor kennel, or we'll provide separate accommodations if that is preferable to you. If you don't wish to bring your dog's own food, Beds-n-Biscuits will provide Canidae, an all-natural, all-life-stage food, at no additional charge. We can also provide bedding for your dog if you prefer not to bring your own.
Weather permitting, your dog will have all-day outdoor play time with boarders of the same size and temperament. While your dog is outside playing, his or her kennel will be cleaned and disinfected each day. Our play yards are supervised and equipped with water, shade, and cooling misters for the hot days of summer. In the winter, the outdoor play schedule is adapted to shelter the dogs from extreme cold. Our indoor kennels are fully heated in the winter. Dogs who need to limit their playtime for medical reasons can be provided with smaller private or semi-private outdoor space. And since our owners live on the premises, your dog will be cared for virtually around the clock.
Beds-n-Biscuits is equipped to board cats and other small animals, such as rabbits. Cats should be current on their FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations. As with dogs, cat owners may provide their own food, or Beds-n-Biscuits will provide Felidae at no additional cost.
This is one of the ways in which dogs differ from humans! Boarding guests at Beds-N-Biscuits settle into a "groove." They get used to the rhythm of their days, and enjoy the fun and security of following the routine in the company of all the other dogs. To pull a dog out of the group for a visit creates a lot of excitement, and possibly distress when the visiting human leaves again. We realize that it's enjoyable and reassuring for the human to visit the dog. But from the dog's point of view, the interruption in their routine can be very upsetting and stressful. While we understand that you miss your dog, the most helpful thing you can do for him during an extended stay is to let him settle in and be part of the pack. Beds-N-Biscuits always welcomes phone calls if you'd like to check and see how your pet is doing.
Canine influenza is a contagious respiratory illness with symptoms that mimic "kennel cough." A dog with the flu develops a moist cough that sounds as if the dog has something caught in its throat. Dogs may also run a low-grade fever and have a nasal discharge. The flu is an airborne virus, and because it is a newly emerging strain, the current bordatella vaccination unfortunately does not provide immunity against it. Dogs also have no natural immunity to it and are therefore highly susceptible to infection. The first cases of canine flu appeared in Colorado in 2005, and it is now widespread in the Denver area. There is currently no vaccine available to protect against it.
Our staff makes certain all of our indoor kennels, water buckets, and food bowls are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected each day. While we can guarantee the cleanliness of our facility, the fun of outdoor playtime unavoidably involves dog-to-dog contact that can transmit the flu. As with all other canine health concerns, information is your best protection. We encourage all clients to consult with their veterinarian for the latest facts on the canine flu in Colorado, especially if your dog is older or has other ongoing health concerns.
Any dog showing symptoms of illness during their stay at Beds-n-Biscuits is immediately moved to a separate area of the facility. This enables us to provide them with individual care. Treatment for the flu is largely supportive. Sick dogs are monitored carefully for fever, or any other indication that veterinary care is needed. Most dogs that get the flu will recover in 7 to 10 days without medical treatment. If treatment becomes necessary, however, Beds-n-Biscuits will contact your dog's veterinarian to schedule a visit. Or if urgent care is needed, Beds-n-Biscuits has 24-hour access to Wheat Ridge Veterinary Hospital.
