Sweet Dog Treats That Beat the Heat

The summer heat is here and it’s a good idea to keep snacks on hand when you and your pup are at the park, going for a hike, or hanging out poolside. Once your dog is done playing, you can bet they’ll be hungry. And so will you! With only a few simple ingredients, these dog safe freeze-pops can be a snack for both you and your best pal.

Peanut Butter Banana Pops

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces of probiotic plain yogurt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 organic banana
  • Popsicle sticks or milk bone

Combine all ingredients inside of a blender or food processor. Blend until you have a creamy mixture. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and seal the top with cling wrap. Add popsicle sticks to the cubes you’ll be eating (or a milk bone for your pup). Freeze for 4 to 6 hours and serve!

Chicken Broth Surprise-Sicle

Ingredients

  • Two 16 ounce cans of chicken or veggie broth
  • Mini dog treats

TIP: Use dog treats that are small enough to fit into the tray and won’t disintegrate in water. Jerky sticks work well.

Fill your cube tray with broth and place plastic wrap over the top. Poke your jerky sticks or mini treats through the plastic and allow them to freeze for 4 to 6 hours. Pop them out and serve. Your dog will find them delicious! You may want to leave this treat for your pup.

Small Dog Treats

Berry Popsicle

Ingredients

  • 1 to 3 strawberries, chopped
  • A handful of blueberries
  • Skin of 1 mango
  • 32 ounces of plain probiotic yogurt

Use a tray with deep cavities to fill these pops up. Layer the fruit evenly along the bottom of each space in your cube tray. Place the mango skins at the bottom, then the strawberries, and finally the blueberries. Fill to the top with yogurt.

Tip: Mangoes are a delicious tropical fruit and dogs can safely enjoy the skin of this fruit. Your dog could choke on a mango seed, so make sure it’s left out of your recipe.
